The Beauty Post #2: Winter Nail Edit

Today I wanted to give you a quick run down of the four polishes that haven't left my fingers in the winter months. Since I am not too dab handed at fancy looking nail art - I tend to stick to colour polishes whose shades I really fall for. These four contenders are my pick of the bunch for giving your hands that festive feel all December long.

The first is the Gold Glitter 289 polish from Barry M. Although this is not the best picture to illustrate it, the Barry M glitters can work as a top coat, giving an extra bit of sparkle to the base colour of your choice or a can be built up to give a more opaque sparkly finish on an accent nail or all nails for a full-on glitter effect. I find the wear time to be the best of the four, often going nearly a week without chipping and it only takes 2 coats to get that solid glitter look - which is handy if you are in a rush! I have this polish in both Gold and Silver and I love them equally but the Gold is the colour of choice as Christmas party season is coming around.

The second is another Barry M offering, but this time it is in 115 Red Black. I bought this after seeing this post over on I Covet Thee and I wasn't disappointed. It is a delicious deep red which captures the vampy trend perfectly. It works well as a day to night polish, looking equally stylish with a casual daytime Grandad cardigan or a little LBD. I have to say the wear time for this one isn't quite as impressive as the Gold glitter as I do find that it chips quite easily - but I'm sure that could be solved by investing in a good top coat. (Any suggestions for the best top coat would be more than welcome!)

The next one is potentially my favourite of the bunch. I already featured the Rimmel 712 Rhythm and Blues in this mini haul post, but my nail favourites wouldn't be complete without dropping in this little baby.  It was completely and utterly Hello October inspired as before reading this post, navy polishes had never really been on my radar. However Rhythm and Blues has got me completely sold with its super shiny finish leaving a dreamy deluxe navy coating to my nails. Two coats and you have a sleek finish which gives the dramatic look of dark nails while still catching the light to give that slightly softer feel. Move over black nails, because navy is my new best friend.

And finally comes the most recent edition to the list - the & Other Stories polish in Borato Greige. Mocha type nails have always given me serious nail envy but I have never really been able to pull them off. I have tried polishes from both Essie and Topshop but neither of them quite lived up to my expectations. Luckily however & Other Stories have hit the nail on the head with this one - offering a slightly darker, more purply mocha which suits my skin tone down to a tee. I also love to mix this one up with the edition of an accent nail from the Barry M Glitter Polish in Silver to give it that extra sparkly feel.

What are your winter favourites?

Charlotte x

  5. Borato Greige looks very pretty - being Asian I find it really hard to pull off these shades with any panache - they always look too milky and tippex-like on my fingers! :( I love how you've presented the shades on sticks, such a nice touch!
